Delron Services, a building engineering services company based in Maidstone, Kent, has been named as the first company to gain microgeneration certification through BESCA’s arrangement with NICEIC’s Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). BESCA chief executive, Bruce Kirton, presented the certificate to Martin Burton of Delron Services in September.
The alliance between BESCA (Building Engineering Services Competence Accreditation), HVCA’s independent national assessment and certification body, and NICEIC, the UK’s largest certification body for electrical contractors and renewable installers, provides the members and installers of renewable technologies with NICEIC MCS certification alongside HVCA’s Competent Person certification services already offered by BESCA.
Burton, senior project manager at Delron Services and a former HVCA president, said, “We are honoured to be the first to achieve MCS certification through the BESCA/NICEIC alliance. The process was completely painless – the key is preparation. We decided to go for MCS certification 18 months ago and have been making sure our labour force was trained up. The way HVCA adapted MCS made it the ideal route for us and the joint BESCA/NICEIC arrangement is the most economical in the marketplace. A lot of work has gone into the development of the BESCA scheme and this expansion to incorporate renewables is a great boon, a tangible benefit to members.
“MCS certification provides consumers with an assurance that microgeneration products and installation companies meet a robust set of standards. In addition, only consumers who use MCS certified installers will benefit from financial incentives such as Feed-in-Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive. If you want your clients to be able to benefit from these schemes, you have to be MCS accredited.”
Kirton added: “We are witnessing building engineering services going through a metamorphosis driven by the growing demand for integrated renewables solutions. It is essential that installers are qualified for the tasks. Certification reduces the burden of inspection that is an inevitable part of demonstrating compliance. This alliance benefits all HVCA members and the industry as a whole.”
