When you need a small thermostat for use in a hazardous area application, you may also have to provide back-up thermal fuse protection for it.

The Matsuo MQT11 and M2F series thermostats are built with an integral thermal fuse to make that process simpler.  The fuse is internally wired in series with the bimetal thermostat so that you only need to connect the two external lead-wires for complete thermal control and one-shot fuse protection.

Matsuo’s range of thermostats are renowned for their long-life, achieved by using a stress-free twin bimetal system activating a separate snap-action contact system.  This ensures a cycle life of between 100k and 1million cycles depending on the applied load, with minimal calibration drift that can readily occur with conventional snap-action bimetal thermostats.  Thus they are ideal for use in remote/difficult to access locations and by combining a high quality control and thermal fuse in one neat package, they are also very simple to incorporate.

The smallest in the range is the MQT11H which has a 34 x 18 x 6mm plastic case that is IP64 rated.  Its sister part (the MQT11K) has an integral surface-mounting tab and both controls are capable of switching up to 2A/125VAC or 2A/12VDC.  The integral thermal fuse can be chosen from 76°C to 145°C and should be selected to be 25°C higher than the temperature setting chosen for the thermostat.

If you need to switch a higher load than 2A, then the larger M2F version is capable of switching up to 5A/125VAC or 5A/12VDC.  The IP64 plastic case is still only 46 x 22 x 7mm in size and the thermal fuses options start at 108°C.
