The versatility of Eaton Electrical Sector’s Memshield 3 range distribution boards has been increased following the launch of a new 3-phase RCBO for feeding 3-phase loads that require earth leakage protection.

The RCBO is a 3-pole plus permanently connected neutral device that fits directly into the Memshield 3 board, thereby eliminating the inconvenience and cost associated with using externally mounted RCDs.

Offering line voltage independent tripping, the RCBO provides overcurrent protection for loads in the range 6 to 32A and offers earth leakage trip sensitivities of 30mA, 100mA and 300mA. The Type A earth leakage protection means it is effective with both AC and pulsating DC supplies.

The RCBO is designed for use with 240/415V 50Hz supplies and has a breaking capacity of 10kA, making it well suited for use in almost all commercial and industrial electrical installations. It is rated to withstand surge voltages up to 4kV. The box clamp terminals have a barrier to prevent incorrect cable/busbar insertion.

The 3-phase RCBOs are fitted with two indicator flags to enhance user convenience and safety, the first of which provides instant visual confirmation of whether the contacts are open or closed, while the second provides similar confirmation of the device’s trip status.

The RCBO takes up 4-pole ways in a 3-phase distribution board i.e. L1 / L2 / L3, and the 4th pole of the device fits over, and is insulated from, the L phase position of the neighbour circuit. Therefore, the neighbour circuit only has two phase circuits available for single-phase circuit feeds or would need to be blanked off.
