Based on the quality and environmental credentials of Wieland’s structured wiring systems, Metalynx2 was chosen to supply power to the luminaires in The Willis Building, a spectacular 28-storey skyscraper in the City of London. The Metalynx2 system was the preferred choice as it has been designed for efficient installation of lighting circuits and the other power requirements located above ceilings, factory tested with no on site waste. Automatic light sensors and low-energy light bulbs help beat requirements for fuel and power conservation by 20 percent.
The Willis Building houses an auditorium, a 6,000 sq. ft. wellness centre, a 300 seat restaurant, 27 conference/dining rooms, a video conference room and parking for over 300 vehicles. The building has received an “excellent” BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) sustainability rating which measures the environmental impact of buildings. This is the highest possible score that can currently be achieved and is given to less than one in five newly completed buildings. Its elegant stepped design and modern glass exterior also won the New City Architecture Award for its unique architectural form and contribution to the streetscape and skyscape of the City of London.
Thanks to its innovative design, Metalynx2 uses a minimum number of components, all of which lock together for secure installation (in compliance with relevant standards), representing a smarter generation that delivers even greater savings on costs and installation time. It is ideal for power distribution, lighting control (including DALI and KNX) and fan coil units – and with the ability to customise Metalynx2 components for special projects, it offers infinite design flexibility.
Furthermore, once Metalynx2 has been installed its inherent flexibility means that any changes to the system can be accommodated quickly with minimum downtime. Wieland also ensured that goods were delivered within the tight timescale given and offered on-site project management and technical support.
