Load monitoring and potential distribution combined in one convincing complete solution. maxGUARD has a modular design, so customers only pay for the load monitoring they actually need. Substantial savings can be made in terms of both space and wiring.

Innovative ideas are required in panel building for control voltage distribution. With Klippon® Connect, Weidmüller is showcasing its pioneering connectivity solution for efficient planning, installation and operation. As part of the Klippon® Connect product portfolio, Weidmüller is offering maxGUARD, which provides load monitoring and potential distribution in one complete solution. maxGUARD is an application product, so in other words, it’s precisely matched to the specific requirements in panel building.

Generally speaking, fail-safe and maintenance-friendly control voltage distributions that can also be installed in a time and space-saving manner are a must for efficient machine and facility operation. The new maxGUARD system integrates the potential distribution terminal blocks (that were previously installed separately) in the electronic load monitoring’s outputs as a complete solution in a 24 V DC control voltage distribution component. This new combination of load monitoring and potential distribution saves time during installation, increases safety against failure and reduces the amount of space required on the terminal rail by up to 50%.

maxGUARD is characterised by its extreme ease of servicing. Operating, testing and connection elements developed for the panel building application permit safe access to all voltage potentials and load circuits during commissioning and maintenance activities. In addition, maxGUARD can be used in a customised way. Indeed, the sheer range of variants and the very different potential distribution terminal blocks and additional components enable customised solutions at all times. The consistently integrated test points in the maxGUARD control voltage distribution’s input and output have proven themselves to be particularly user-friendly, as they speed up troubleshooting operations. For testing and checking purposes, the potential distributors have practical disconnecting levers for simple galvanic isolation of the load circuit.

maxGUARD is also equipped with cross-connectors that are unique on the market, delivering a reduction in the time and effort needed for wiring due to cross-connections between load monitoring and potential distribution terminal blocks. Last but not least, the new control voltage distribution system has a particularly space-saving design – electronic load monitoring elements and potential distributors have a 6.1 mm pitch.

maxGUARD impresses users both with its innovative basic idea and the fact that it saves up to 50% space. Its added value thus lies in its technical and time-saving as a complete concept, since it is designed as a single-section solution. While single-section solutions run over the number of channels in a linear way, block solutions always have a step function. With the maxGUARD single-section solution, the user only pays for what they really need, rather than having unused channels in block solutions. For example, for five channels, a customer buys five sections from Weidmüller instead of two blocks of four channels or one block of eight channels. Section solutions are therefore cost-efficient and often substantially shorten the panel’s width.

At the same time, engineering tools from Weidmüller provide each and every user with support. What with maxGUARD’s high level of modularity, a machine’s basic functions can be standardised in almost any way and used in a pre-assembled state as a block. What’s more, maxGUARD doesn’t rely on single-channel monitoring. Instead, it uses group monitoring, which is considered sufficient in most cases by users. Indeed, the modular system from Weidmüller makes everything possible – from the use of individual components, over the definition of basic assemblies, to complete control voltage distribution.

maxGUARD solutions cut an impressive figure as efficient 24 V DC control voltage distributions due to the fact that they can be freely combined with numerous four-channel and single-channel variants. They offer a high degree of flexibility due to their adjustable load monitoring (current and trigger characteristics – standard or delayed), and feature tamper-proof single-channel load monitoring (fixed value) as well as economical fourfold load monitoring (fixed value) for sensor groups, etc.

Electronic load monitoring is indispensable when it comes down to selective 24 V DC load circuit monitoring that shuts down overloads and short-circuits that occur reliably and rapidly. The 24 V DC system voltage is maintained, while all the other control components can remain in operation without any interference. With maxGUARD, electronic load monitoring and potential distribution terminal blocks can be combined in, as needed, and assembled to create a complete 24 V DC control voltage distribution solution with all the necessary positive and negative load circuit connections, which not only saves precious time, but a substantial amount of space too.

maxGUARD uses PUSH IN technology for its connections. The rated operating voltage is 24 V DC, and the complete system’s current carrying capacity is designed for 40 A max. The wide operating temperature range extends from –25°C to +55°C (without derating). The connection cross-sections are 16 mm² in the power-feed module, 2.5 mm² in electronic load monitoring (ELM), and 1.5 mm² at the top and 2.5 mm² at the bottom of the potential distribution terminal block. A wide range of power-feed modules (modules without a control function or modules with an alarm and reset function) are available at present, as are a control and alarm module and, last but not least, various potential distribution modules.
