FLIR thermal imaging is being adopted for the task of inspecting a high or low voltage electrical system when it is fully energised, which substantially increasing the efficiency of the process.
The resolution of FLIR’s cameras enables the operator to conduct detailed inspections in complete safety. The 640 x 480 pixels array, that is characteristic of the high end FLIR T- and P-Series, allows the smallest thermal difference to be detected over a long and therefore safe distance.
For those wishing to take advantage of this technology, FLIR has announced the availability of its new Utility Packages. The FLIR T640 is highly ergonomic and easy to use even when wearing personal protection equipment. Temperature differences of just 0.04°C are easily seen on this model which is the basis of the first of two FLIR Utility Packages.
The FLIR T640 comes with a 15-telephoto lens that provides 1.7x magnification by comparison with the standard 25-lens. The combination is well suited for inspecting overhead power lines and high voltage transformer bushings.
The second of the Utility Packages provides a choice of the FLIR P620, P640 and P660 thermal imaging camera from the range that is the company’s flagship for predictive maintenance. The model chosen includes a 12-lens with 2x magnification than the 25-lens.
Both packages are valid until December 31st 2012 and also include a five day Level 1 training course organised by the FLIR Infrared Training Centre (ITC) to help ensure the user gets the best return on the investment.
