Following the recent £63 million boost for Britain’s electric vehicle revolution government announcement, David Swadling, speaks on the news and what it means for fleet managers, developers and drivers.

“This £63m investment represents a transformational moment for EV drivers and businesses, and IDNOs like us are uniquely positioned to unlock its full potential. This funding doesn’t just mean more charging points – it means we can deliver genuine cost savings for developers and cheaper charging. Being electricity only focussed and with experience across all voltage levels, as a Group we are supporting the transition to ensure future EV infrastructure is safe and reliable and maintained for its lifetime.
To ensure GB meets growing demand, the focus has to shift towards high capacity charging hubs, particularly for HGVs and fleet. Charging hubs, like Three Maids in Winchester, are a working example of how Eclipse works closely with clients to secure grid capacity and connect the much-needed infrastructure to drive electrification.

The depot charging grants create a pathway to significant operational savings while future-proofing their fleets. Our role is to ensure we work with ICPs and CPOs to support these commercial customers so they have the reliable, scalable power infrastructure they need to transition confidently to electric vehicles, reducing their running costs and supporting their sustainability goals.
The NHS investment is equally compelling. £8m that will generate millions in long-term savings for patient care while reducing air pollution in our communities. We can help deliver the robust electricity infrastructure that makes this possible, ensuring our health service benefits from both environmental and economic improvements.
This government backing reinforces the UK’s position as Europe’s leading EV market, and Eclipse Group is part of the invisible backbone making it all work. Every time someone plugs in their electric vehicle, they’re accessing our networks. We’re not just supporting the transition to net zero – we’re ensuring it delivers tangible benefits for working families, businesses, and public services.”
