Honeywell delivered a speaker session on advanced aspiration smoke detection technology at the Rail Industry Fire Association AGM in York, UK (19th June).

Tim Checketts, business development manager for Honeywell Fire Safety, outlined how FAAST (Fire Alarm Aspiration Sensing Technology), can help transportation facilities overcome traditional fire detection issues by removing false alarms, enhancing safety and reducing maintenance.

Transportation facilities such as underground stations and depots present some of the most challenging fire detection environments; high levels of brake dust, combined with environmental fluctuations make most fire detection methods prone to costly and disruptive false alarms.

High footfalls and long network operational hours demand solutions that offer both the earliest, most accurate fire detection and simplified maintenance. Remote system monitoring and diagnostics are also essential in allowing issues to be rectified before they become a reality.

Environmental fluctuation is also no issue for FAAST; the device features an Acclimate Mode, which allows the unit to continuously adjust to changes in the environment.
