The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) has issued the final call for entries for its 2012 Innovation Awards, honouring the most innovative individuals and companies at the forefront of science, engineering and technology.
The 2012 awards, in recognition of the London Olympics, will feature the addition of a new category recognising the most ground breaking sports technology innovations and applications. To celebrate some of the biggest achievements in sports technology, the IET has compiled a Facebook timeline which can be found here.
Recognising the depth and breadth of innovative work being carried out across all areas of engineering and technology, at all stages of development, the IET Innovation Awards span 15 categories. These include electronics, healthcare and sustainability, and will be judged by a panel of more than 80 industry and academic experts.
Tim Hamer, director of knowledge at the IET, commented, “Engineering plays a vital role in enriching our daily lives – from the transport that we take to the electronic devices that we use – and these awards recognise the most innovative players in industry.
“Now in its eighth year, the Innovation Awards are internationally recognised, attracting some of the most pioneering technology year on year. The debut of the sports technology category this year is particularly exciting, celebrating the role of science, engineering and technology in pushing the boundaries of athletic participation and performance.”
With the 31st July deadline fast approaching, the IET urges individuals and organisations from all over the world to celebrate their products and technologies by putting themselves forward today. Entry to the Innovation Awards is free and details can be found at www.theiet.org/innovation
The IET will announce the 2012 shortlist in early October ahead of the ceremony, to be held at The Brewery, London on Thursday 22nd November 2012.
