Emperor cable cleats, manufactured in Yorkshire by Ellis, have once again proved to be the perfect solution for a major international offshore project; with Campo Grande-based Prática Engenharia Ltda selecting them for installation on Petrobras’ new P-66 FPSO (floating production storage offloading) vessel.
The specification for the FPSO, which is being built in Brazil for use in the development of pre-salt projects in the Santos basin, was secured by Ellis’ Brazilian distributor, Macaé-based Polar Componentes e Sistemas Offshore.

Designed for use where the highest levels of short circuit withstand are required, Ellis’ Emperor cable cleats are available for both trefoil and single cable applications, and are manufactured in type 316L stainless steel, meaning they provide ultimate corrosion protection. The benefits of the Emperor cleats also extend to a patented design, which makes installation quick and easy, and an integral LSF zero halogen polymeric liner and base pad that protects and cushions cables during short circuit conditions.
Petrobras is the world’s fourth largest company – a status it earned when it moved from full state ownership to semi-public ownership following a $72bn stockmarket float in 2010. The P-66 FPSO is the first of eight vessels being built by the company, and when complete will have a processing capacity of 150,000 barrels per day of oil and six million cubic metres per day of natural gas.
