Industry legend Tony Cable attended a celebratory event for more than 60 apprentices recently.
The group all completed their four-year apprenticeships with DCET Training (formerly Devon & Cornwall Electrical Training) this year.
To mark their achievement they attended an official certificate presentation ceremony at DCET’s Head Office in Exeter. The newly qualified electricians were joined by family and friends. The certificates were presented by NICEIC and ELECSA’s senior marketing and events engineer, Tony Cable.
Bernard Collins, DCET’s curriculum manager, was Master of Ceremonies. He said: “This really is a tremendous achievement. The electrical apprenticeship takes three and a half years of on-site assessment, practical work and classroom lessons. It is hard going at times and there is a tough practical exam at the end. I take my hat off to the learners for sticking with it and graduating as qualified electricians.”
Tony Cable added: “It is great to see the new breed of young electricians coming through and I was delighted to help out.
“Apprenticeships are vital for the future of our industry but it is also important to remember the part the employers play in this successful training.
“They have paid wages and offered support and experience throughout the apprenticeship. I hope the newly qualified electricians go on to have a long and rewarding career like mine.”
DCET Training, which is part of the Focus Training Group, is always looking for young people looking to learn an apprenticeship. It has Centres in Redruth, Torbay, Newton Abbot, Plymouth and Bristol, as well as the main centre and head office in Exeter.
