Staff from a Norwich based electrical firm have been heading to watch the long awaited blockbuster T2 Trainspotting knowing they will be seeing something familiar!

Hughes Trade supplied a total of 255 electrical items, everything from large TV’s and appliances to upmarket vacuum cleaners, taken in two Hughes HGV trucks from Thetford to a covert warehouse studio set in Glasgow last summer where it was being filmed.

“We worked very closely with BAFTA nominated set designer Veronique Melery, who has 37 film credits to her name, to make sure everything fitted in perfectly with her requirements,” said Hughes Trade general manager, Paul Chisnall. “For example some white goods needed to be a specific size to fit in with certain scenes.”

The items were driven up to Glasgow one weekend and collected the next, a round trip of some 750 miles!

“We delivered them to a secure warehouse on a Sunday just as it was being set up by designers and returned the following Sunday to collect them,” added Paul Chisnall.

“Having now watched the movie it was great to see our products in a major scene, in a warehouse where Begbie, Robert Carlyle, deals dodgy goods! It is a fantastic film, whether because we have known the characters for 20 years, the references to the original, the cool music or just some great direction.

“We are all very proud of being able to play a small part in the film which is already being described as a big hit.”

Hughes Trade were approached out of the blue by the production company who said they had been scouring the internet looking for a suitable electrical rental company.

“The inquiry was very unusual,” said Paul Chisnall. “But working closely with the production company with assistance from Creative Scotland we were able to provide every item they requested. They said they were thrilled to find a company of a scale that could provide bulk rental of appliances at relatively short notice.

“All goods that were unpackaged for the filming have now been rented to our customers in the same way as items returned from the London Olympics and Glasgow Commonwealth Games.”

T2 Trainspotting comes 21 years after the original film and sees Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) return to Scotland. It features all the cast from the original movie and is directed by Danny Boyle.
