Combining the advantages of busbar with the benefits of flexible cables, the latest generation of Wieland Electric’s gesis NRG flat cable system is ideal for installing power distribution and lighting control in retail applications.
gesis NRG flexible busbar enables fast and easy installation, not to mention future modifications, without the need to specify where the tap-offs should be placed until it is installed on site, while the flat cable ensures easy routing around corners. Consequently, the system facilitates fast-track fit-outs and re-fits of retail premises, reducing material costs when compared with traditional busbar systems, shortening programme delivery times and minimising the costs of onsite labour.
For further ease and speed of installation, all components are delivered pre-assembled, thereby eliminating the risk of items being dropped during installation. To provide a tap-off, at any point along its length, the flat cable is simply inserted into the tap-off adapter base plate, the adapter housing is closed, the contact screws are tightened and the cover is closed. The cover can only be closed if all of the screws have been fully inserted, as an additional level of risk management.
All components feature fixing holes that are integrated in their base plates, so that the components can also be used for fixing purposes. An end piece, provided to safely protect the cut end of the cable, does not require elaborate stripping and separating of the phases to insulate the installation. The cable is simply cut off with a special cutting tool and put into the end piece – no silicone gel is required.
Furthermore, gesis NRG requires less installation space than other systems, so that fewer constraints are placed on the positioning and configuration of other elements.
Flexible choice for a wide range of applications
Flexibility is at the heart of the gesis NRG range, with three variations of flat cable: PVC with a cross-section of 5 x 2.5 mm² and halogen-free with 5 x 2.5 and 5 x 4 mm², each has a variant for power (3-phase) and power + dimming (1-phase plus dimming signal). The outer geometry of the cables is identical, so that all components fit both cable cross-sections.
Additional flexibility comes from the ability to connect flat cable tap-in and tap-off adapters to Wieland’s GST18 system anywhere on the flat cable without cutting and stripping. Contacts are made by means of insulation-piercing screws.
The supply to the flat cable system can be made with cables from 2.5 to 6 mm² with the strain relief permanently integrated in the supply module.
The GST18® system is used for parallel tapping of the flat cable:
- 3-phase, with GST18i5 in black coding for power
- 1-phase + dimming signal, with GST18i5 in pastel blue coding for dimming
- 1-phase, with phase pre-selection with GST18i3
At the GST18i3 flat cable tap-off adapter, the phase can be pre-selected when installing the adapter. If this pre-selection needs to be changed, the contact can be removed and put on another phase without the need to move the adapter. The selected phase can always be checked through the inspection window, even when the cover is closed.
