Wieland make the right connection at The Adelphi Building

A range of products, including special distribution modules and pluggable DB’s, from Wieland Electric have been used for the connection of lighting and power in the newly refurbished Adelphi Building, overlooking the Victoria Embankment in London.

The £30m project to remodel and refurbish the iconic art deco building incorporates 190,000sq ft of high specification open plan office accommodation whilst maintaining the integrity of the original architecture for property owner Blackstone.

Designer Group were contracted to carry out the design, supply and installation of all the works and specified Wieland for the installation.  Working closely with The Designer Group, Wieland created the general circuit plan for the DALI lighting scheme being used throughout the building. Designer Group UK managing director, Mr Nick Baish said, “We selected Wieland as their product suited our application and they were very proactive during procurement in assisting us to find the right solution.  We recognise the advantages of pre-fabrication and look at possibilities on all our projects”.

Wieland’s special 5 pole distribution modules with 10 outputs were used in place of a general LCM system and included extenders, tees and FCUs feeding the luminaires and fan coil units.  Due to the scale of the project, the MDB’s used within the project utilised two DALI pairs in home runs instead of the usual one. The use of Wieland’s pluggable DB system also allowed for quick installation as the units were delivered ready to connect on site.  This not only reduces installation time but significantly reduces the risk of any connectivity errors as the units are tested and approved before they reach the site and are simply plugged in.  Using the Wieland system for this project has reduced installation time from days to hours and has been estimated at a 70% reduction in connectivity.
