UK Power Networks has announced the appointment of Ann Bishop as the chair of its RIIO-ED2 Customer Engagement Group (CEG).

The company, which delivers power to more than 18 million people across London, the East and the South East of England is forming a new and independent CEG. Its members will be a cross-section of specialists and it will hold the company to the highest standards in leading edge customer engagement. The CEG will help ensure that UK Power Networks’ business plan for the regulatory period starting in 2023 meets the needs of all customers while contributing to the creation of the low carbon economy that is fundamental to future generations.

Bishop has worked for more than 30 years with regulated infrastructure businesses and regulators in the UK and internationally. She is the founder of Indepen, which is known for promoting constructive challenge to the status quo and has convened and chaired cross disciplinary groups to address controversial issues in the public, private and third sectors. She has a wealth of governance experience from working with boards and leading panels to review and challenge the thinking, strategies and plans of infrastructure businesses.

Speaking about her appointment, Bishop said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead UK Power Networks’ CEG. It has never been more important to ensure that the energy networks meet the needs of their customers. I will use my experience and that of the panel to encourage ambition in UK Power Networks as it prepares its RIIO-ED2 business plan.”

UK Power Networks will support Bishop in recruiting members to the group to ensure a broad and diverse range of expertise, views and ideas are represented.
