Earnings for self-employed electricians continued their record-breaking streak last month, according to the latest figures released by Hudson Contract.
Analysis of November payroll data for more than 2,200 construction companies in England and Wales reveals a 2.6 per cent increase to a weekly average of £1,195 for electrical contractors.
This is the highest figure since Hudson Contract started analysing subcontractor earnings in 2008. Electricians generated the highest earnings of all 17 construction trades covered by the company last month.
Ian Anfield, managing director of Hudson Contract, said: “The latest purchasing managers index for construction shows that housebuilding has been the most resilient part of the industry in 2019. Most of our clients are in housebuilding and are busy, which is driving demand for self-employed electricians.
“Highly skilled freelancers are earning more than many white collar employees. This is a great message for young people considering a career in construction. If they work hard and develop the right skills, they can enjoy great rewards.”
