Prysmian has installed 5,000 metres of its FP200 Gold as part of the refurbishment of the fire detection and fire alarm system at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
The cables will connect the fire alarms in crucial areas of the hospital including the Ophthalmology H2 ward, HSDU (Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit), radiology and social services departments.
The hospital has been designed with safety in mind, the first priority for any healthcare authority. Attention to detail is also crucial, with all materials being carefully selected to bring the facility up to the required standards.
The £70,000 M&E upgrade of the fire safety system was installed by Hayvern Electrical. John Murphy, contracts manager at Hayvern Electrical explained, “I have specified Prysmian Cables on numerous occasions, including sports facilities such as the Goshen Sports Centre in Bury. The cables always meet the specification in terms of third party approvals and are readily available.”
FP200 Gold complies with the requirements of fire alarm standard, BS 5839 and is BASEC & LPCB certified. The approval includes BS EN 50200 Class PH30 and the new integrated fire, shock and water test BS EN 50200 Annex E for 30 minutes. FP200 Gold is also suitable for voice alarm systems, emergency lighting and other essential service circuits, meeting the appropriate British Standard and third party approvals.
Murphy and his team started in November – the H2 ward, social services and radiology departments have reached completion and the HSDU unit is currently ongoing.
