After securing the right to offer contractors access to the BAFE SP203 Part 1 certification scheme, ECA Certification is now able to offer the new BAFE SP205 life safety risk assessment.

The new standard was only introduced in May last year, but ECA Certification, part of the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) group, has been quick to respond to the needs of the market.

SP205 will become the standard for anyone undertaking fire risk assessment for properties. However, it comes with legal guidelines and responsibilities in light of the fact that the industry has recently faced prosecutions for poorly undertaken assessments.

Chris Beedel, certification director for the ECA, said, “Our assessors are industry experts and fire risk assessment practitioners who have trained to become auditing assessors, rather than the other way around. This means they understand the workings of the market and the exacting standards required to carry out the right level of assessment.

“There has always been scope within the fire regulation and certification market for another major player and one that has a lot of synergy with the fire community. We can support those contractors wanting to diversify and take advantage of the many opportunities that exist within the fire market.”
