A recently published Ofgem report estimates a 30 per cent cut in the UK’s electricity generating capacity in the next 2 years.

EU anti-pollution laws are forcing the early shutdown of coal-fired power stations while some of Britain’s nuclear plants are also closing at the same time. Ofgem also say that the risk of future blackouts has trebled in the last year as Britain is facing an energy crunch that will push up bills. They warn there could be energy shortages in the middle of this decade as the UK has failed to build enough new wind farms and nuclear powers stations to replace old fossil fuel plants.

Jason Smith, NSSE’s Operations Manager, commented;

It seems inevitable that as we look to the very near future, we will encounter more expensive, yet more insecure and unreliable sources of energy. With varying degrees of thought on how to best tackle this imminent issue and make provisions for the future, every single person who relies on mains electricity to support any aspect of their business should be asking themselves  if they’ve done everything possible to provide sufficient protection for their organisation  in the unwelcome event of power failure”.

Power failure is responsible for 28% of computer system breakdowns and can takes days to recover from this disruption. Even then, not all data may be recoverable which could mean catastrophic results for your organisation in the short and long term.

Ask yourself what would happen to your business in the event of power failure…

Would the phones stop ringing? Would your staff lose their work? Could you access your emails? What about your servers?
