Fundraisers at St Michael’s Hospice in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, have sent a big thank you to local employer Marshall-Tufflex after its staff raised £305 to support the charity’s Phoenix Fund project.
The hospice was badly damaged by fire last summer and is currently being refurbished, with a £1 million target set for the Phoenix Fund to help pay for the project.
Staff at cable management manufacturer Marshall-Tufflex’s Churchfields and Castleham Industrial Estate sites have supported the hospice in the past and decided to do so again, this time with a Christmas raffle, organised by receptionist Teresa Plass, and Mufti Days when employees wore casual clothes to work in exchange for a charity donation.
Marshall-Tufflex’s Joint Consultative Committee, a group of non-managerial representatives from around the business, decides which charities will be supported each year via its work with Marshall-Tufflex in the Community. Committee chair Fred Adams said: “We talk to staff about which charities they would like our Mufti Day funds to be donated to. St Michael’s Hospice is always a popular choice due to the amazing service and support it offers families in the community at a time when they need it most.”
Hospice Fundraising Team Leader Marcia Dart said: “Many thanks again for all the support we receive from Marshall-Tufflex. We need to raise £3.7 million this year just for day-to-day running costs, as well as £1 million for the Phoenix Fund, and could not do this without the help and generosity of local businesses such as theirs.”
