High pin count aids PCB mounting

Jun 10, 2013 | Cables and Accessories

Phoenix Contact has expanded its M12 flush type plug connector range with new high pin count designs for PCB mounting. The 12- and 17-pin flush type plug connectors (pictured) have a two part structure for efficient assembly and angled solder contacts, which are suitable for both THR and wave soldering processes. Users therefore have the option of M12 plug connectors with universal 4- to 17-pin angled contacts.

It is now possible to implement device designs with PCBs at a 90° angle to the front plate without any restrictions. There is also the option of a spring loaded shield contact, which transfers the front plate potential directly to the PCB via a solder contact. The new plug connectors also have the Speedcon rapid interlock system and are IP67 compliant.

The company has also added to its range of M12 flush type 1.4404 stainless steel plug connectors for applications with demanding requirements. The 4- to 17-pin plug connectors are available with preassembled stranded wires and are suitable for front or rear panel mounting. Users have the choice of PG9, M16 and M20 threads.

The A, B, and D codings prevent incorrect plugging. All products are sealed and thus meet the IP67 protection rating even when unplugged. The flush type plug connectors are suitable for PCB mounting and conventional installation methods.

Phoenix Contact therefore now provides a portfolio of stainless steel M12 products for application in environments that exhibit large temperature fluctuations, high levels of vibration, or wherever a high degree of hygiene or corrosion resistance is required.
