Just as the demands on data centers are in continual change, the demands on the physical IT infrastructure itself also change.
nVent therefore continues to develop its IT products such as the trusted nVent SCHROFF Varistar server and network cabinet have been enhanced by a new generation Varistar CP. By means of a design change the static load-carrying capacity has been tested to 1,600 kg and integrated castor options to support 1,000 kg dynamic load have been added. Further new accessory parts have been developed for extra functionality and flexibility while the next generation platform is fully compatible with the existing range.
The high static load-carrying capacity was achieved simply by replacing the width-reducing adapter brackets previously used. In their place now are cross members that can carry more load. The cross members feature holes set at 25 mm increments. This allows the user to move the 19″ plane forward or backward in the cabinet, depending on how much room is required in the front for cabling. The integrated castors allow to move the rack, while once in place the rack can easily be leveled over adjustable feet. Integrated racks with up to 1,000 kg equipment load can be moved to the point of use. Also to keep the data center whitespace clean from packing materials, racks can be easily put in place using the castor – feet combination.
Naturally, the range of Varistar covers for air baffling has been adapted to the new design and offers new options. Hot and cold air continue to be efficiently separated, regardless of where in the cabinet the 19″ plane is positioned.
Structured cabling is key to maintain a failure free operation and optimize air flow. Panels with openings for front to back cabling as well as additional cable finger designs can easily be integrated. Cable entry zones on top covers and optional bottom plates can be combined with internal cable management and also support separation of data and power cables.
When designing Varistar CP ease of use and short setup time were additional focus. Several toolless accessories and components allow quick installation and provide flexibility for potential future adjustments. In addition all screwed connections have been aligned – so whether you want to level the rack, change the position of the 19” plane or simply add cable management accessories only one tool is required.
A new, highly flexible option for fitting socket strips in the rear part of the cabinet has also been developed. New mounting brackets were designed that integrate directly into the Varistar meander profile. All socket strips offered by nVent can be mounted using the holes in the mounting brackets, as well as strips from other manufacturers, individually or side by side on one side of the cabinet.
IT equipment such as servers, storage and switches from various manufacturers can be housed in nVent SCHROFF Varistar server and network cabinets. With their well-designed and very wide standard range of dimensions, accessories and expansion elements, nVent SCHROFF Varistar cabinets can be adapted to the conditions and requirements of any data center. The special Varistar meander profile with its 25-mm hole grid allows accessories to be mounted on all three planes and offers optimized cable management in separate cabling zones. For access control, various locking options are available – from simple lever handles with or without DIN cylinder to electronic handles with IP addresses.
Based on more than 50 years’ experience in data and networking racks new application focused pre-engineered cabinets have been added to the portfolio. The designs are based on latest customer configurations and are ready to be used whether you plan a stand-alone server or network rack, side by side server racks or cabling racks you can just pick one of these solutions. Naturally, all configurations offered by the nVent SCHROFF Varistar CP platform apply not only to individual cabinets but also to the containment program. By configuring a series of off-the-shelf components, it is possible to create fully engineered IT infrastructure solutions with a delivery time of just 10 working days. Addressing increased heat loads and HPC installations the racks can be combined with nVent RackChiller series for row, rack and even direct to chip level cooling.
