Sudlows, in partnership with IT solutions provider Softcat, have been selected, following a tender process, by Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, to design and build a data centre facility at the trust’s headquarters.

The project will deliver a complete 14 rack data centre facility, accommodating a 100kW load. The adjacent plant space will house the new switchboard and UPS units as well as providing for high speed optical fibre connectivity.

The design provides a modular expansion which allows for the systems to be installed in line with the current and anticipated operating loads, in steps that retain the balance between cooling and critical power that is essential to maintaining an efficient facility.

Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated provider of hospital, community and primary care services, including the University Teaching Hospital. A team of 6,000 staff provide local services to the city of Salford and specialist services to Greater Manchester and beyond.

Andy Hirst, global director for Sudlows, commented, “This latest data centre project delivered to Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust demonstrates the value and technical excellence that Sudlows are renowned for. Our knowledge and experience within the health sector ensures that we deliver a modern and efficient facility that will provide reliable IT systems in support of the Trust’s operational requirements.”
