Netcontrol Oy, an international company providing Smart Grid solutions, has acquired the entire share capital of PowerQ, an expert organisation producing solutions for the management of energy systems measurement data, on 15 June 2016. The acquisition is a perfect manifestation of Netcontrol’s strategy to focus on the automation, management and data processing of energy networks.
Located in Tampere, PowerQ is a Finnish company specialised in developing and delivering solutions for the processing of measurement data collected from energy networks along with related expert services. PowerQ offers effective software products for managing measurements from secondary and primary substations and from industry power networks.
The acquisition further strengthens Netcontrol’s network automation concept Netcon 100, which already encompasses solutions for the remote management, line protection and power quality of secondary substations. We will now be able to offer applications that enable proactive maintenance as well as power quality analysis and analysis of various disturbances in the electricity network.
To PowerQ as a company Netcontrol’s extensive distribution channels offer an excellent opportunity to sell the PQNet product to new customers and to international markets. The acquisition also strengthens PowerQ’s position to operate as a credible, long-term partner to larger energy companies, including international ones. Each of the two companies has know-how that perfectly complements that of the other.
In its products and systems Netcontrol has consistently promoted solutions based on multiple vendors and open interfaces. The PQNet product, too, will continue to include, and see further development of, open interfaces to various vendors’ products.
Netcontrol and PowerQ have for several years cooperated and both companies have a strong joint customer base. We are convinced that this acquisition will further strengthen our close cooperation with one another and our clients.
