Hager claims that its maintenance-free junction box is the only junction box to meet the requirements of Amendment 1 of the 17th Edition for maintenance-free connections. The company’s products, J803 and J804, contain sprung push fit terminals that do not relax and therefore, do not need to be accessible for future inspection.

The standard BS 5733 defines tests for the terminals that include long term connection test, pull-out, voltage drop, temperature rise and exposure to corrosive atmospheres.

Hager’s maintenance-free junction box is compliant with both the 17th Edition and the new junction box standard BS EN 60670-22 and the new revision of BS 5733.

The terminals accept and secure solid, stranded or flexible conductors from 0.5mm2 to 4mm2. Twin and CPC and flexible cords can all be mixed. You then secure the cage clamp terminal using a screwdriver or finger to push down on the pushbutton.

There is also space for cabling and the lid hinges through 360° for unrestricted access. The terminals are labelled with mouldings in the base.

All the cables are clamped securely so there is no strain on the terminal connections and no risk of exposed unsheathed conductors. The cable clamps are reversible to allow either single or double cable entry.

The three terminal 32A and four terminal 20A versions that are available are constructed from polycarbonate and will withstand impact damage. When installed, they have a rating of IP2X.
