Spelsberg UK is set to improve its average lead time on customised products with the introduction of a new CNC production cell at its headquarters in Telford.

The latest addition to Spelsberg’s in-house CNC capabilities means that it is able to offer rapid customisation times, for any order size, to almost all of the 4,000 standard products available in its range.

In today’s challenging economic climate, Spelsberg UK has taken the decision to invest significantly in its facilities in order to increase capacities and reduce lead times to its UK customer base, Spelsberg UK has added a new Datron MV1500 to its fleet of CNC machines which, due to its large size, is expected to reduce lead times significantly once up to speed.

Chris Lloyd, general manager of Spelsberg UK, commented, “Customisation is an important part of our business. Despite having a standard product list of well over 4,000 enclosures, we understand that every application is different and that no-one wants to compromise when it comes to protecting their product. By customising the number and position of entry points you can ensure that an enclosure’s IP rating is maintained and there are no areas of unnecessary weakness.

“The new CNC machine offers a significant advantage over our existing machines in that once modified it will then enable us to be able to machine multiple lids & bases. Once we have the machine fully modified and running smoothly we will be able to create a continuous production line which will allow us to machine larger batches of product in a reduced time scale. By freeing up the other CNC machines for smaller batches and sample units we are confident that lead times will fall significantly in many cases.”

Spelsberg’s customisation abilities include any combination of circular holes, hinge fixing points, pushbutton holes, rectangles, countersunk holes and threaded holes on any external surface. The customisation ensures that any size and shape of cut out and cable gland requirements can be easily accommodated without the need to employ an enclosure that is otherwise unsuitable for the application. With its fleet of in-house CNC machines it has the capability to quickly produce one of many thousands of bespoke enclosures.

Once a design has been machined the template is saved on Spelsberg’s system and the customer is given a unique reference code for quick and simple re-ordering.
