Cheltenham Science Festival is bringing its hands-on free interactive MakerShack back in 2018. And it is looking for makers, designers, engineers and hobbyists to get involved
Last year the MakerShack was a huge hit with visitors of all ages who enjoyed the chance to create, invent, play and explore. During the Festival over 9,000 people – toddlers, schoolchildren and grandparents – passed through its doors. Activities ranged from computer coding and 3D printing to crafting with clay and willow weaving – all revealing the wonders of everyday science.
The Festival is looking for more volunteers to bring intriguing materials, technology and ideas for Festival visitors in 2018 to explore.
Olivia Clemence, Events Manager for the MakerShack said: “We’re looking for makers, designers and artists at all stages of their career – students, professionals or retired people – who have a passion and want to tell people about it. They can run a making station for the entire week of the Festival or simply help for one day. It’s full-on but great fun and they’ll be working with lots of like-minded people who love what they do and love to share. We can offer accommodation and a daily food allowance for volunteers who take part.”
Engineer Tom Llewellyn-Jones who ran a making station at the MakerShack last year said: “The MakerShack was brilliant and my group thoroughly enjoyed the whole week. If we can be of any help next year we would love to take part again.”
