Emperor cable cleats from Yorkshire manufacturer, Ellis are being installed in the new Ledvice Power Plant in the Czech Republic.

The 660MWe power station is being built in the foothills of the Krusne Mountains by the country’s largest electricity producer, CEZ. When commissioned in 2014 it will be the most modern brown coal powered plant in central Europe, producing more electricity than the combined output of the five other units that have been located on the site since the 1960s.

Ellis’ cleats were specified by ABB s.r.o – the Czech division of the global leader in power and automation technologies, the ABB Group.

Petr Kubelka, the ABB engineering manager responsible for the Ledvice Power Plant project, said: “We had no hesitation specifying Ellis’ Emperor cleats. They were perfect in terms of quality and installation ease, and the company back-up this product quality with exceptionally good technical support.”

Available for trefoil and single cable applications, Ellis’ Emperor cleats are designed for use where the highest levels of short circuit withstand are required. All products in the range are manufactured in type 316L stainless steel, meaning they provide ultimate corrosion protection, even in the harshest of environments.

The benefits of the Emperor cleats also extend to a patented design that makes installation quick and easy, and an integral LSF zero halogen polymeric liner and base pad that protects and cushions cables during short circuit conditions.

Ellis’ FlexiStraps were also specified. Available in standard (SD) and heavy-duty (HD) variants, they are designed specifically for this type of project and can be used with both Ellis Patents Vulcan + and Emperor cleats to secure trefoil cable applications. As with the Emperor cleats they are manufactured in 316L stainless steel in order to withstand the harshest of conditions. The straps have also been short circuited tested in accordance with IEC61914 (2009) and can be installed quickly and easily using just a standard ratchet handle and spanner.
