Dieselec Thistle invest in UK expansion

Feb 13, 2013 | UPS & Standby Power

Standby power specialist, Dieselec Thistle, is forging ahead with the expansion of its Glasgow head office site, more than doubling its operating space to 65,000ft2 in a seven figure investment.

The company is forecast to reach a turnover of £25 million in the year to June 2013, an increase of £18 million since 2010, the year that Dieselec acquired Thistle Generators and kick started a co-ordinated growth plan. A growth in market demand, the opening of a London depot to enhance national market penetration and a continuing focus on service and technical support have all helped the company to expand rapidly over the past two years.

Dieselec Thistle has doubled its head count and has been successful in increasing the size and variety of contracts on its books, including both new installations and service contracts across sectors including healthcare, data centres, distribution, retail and hotels.

The extended premises will include additional workshops, a storage and showroom facility and new office space. The enhanced site will now also include a bespoke test cell facility which will enable Dieselec Thistle to carry out Factory Acceptance Testing on their own site, rather than taking clients across to FG Wilson’s factory in Northern Ireland, streamlining the company’s operations and enabling it to offer even higher levels of service to customers.

Sales director of Dieselec Thistle, Brian Muirie, “Our aim over the past two years has been to extend our excellent reputation and market leading position in Scotland on a national basis and that strategy has fuelled our rapid growth. We have increased our team and to sustain our growth path we now need to extend our facilities too. Our in-house testing facility will give us another advantage in the standby power marketplace with an advanced custom specification that will future-proof this investment for years to come.”

The workshop, showroom and the shell for the test cell are now complete, while the office accommodation and test facility are currently being fitted out with specialist equipment.
