Greater Manchester safety seal manufacturer Roxtec has completed a deal to provide bespoke cable seals for a new electrical switch room at King’s College Hospital in London.
The firm was tasked with sealing a wide range of new and existing cables to protect against water ingress and fire. Roxtec UK managing director Graham O’Hare said it was vital to protect the hospital’s switchboards, distribution panels and circuit breakers from multiple hazards.
“Switch rooms invariably house all the main electrical equipment for a building,” he said. “That’s why it is always important to ensure that all cables going through walls and floors are properly sealed – but doubly so when the cables are powering a hospital. Thanks to the versatility of our products, we were able to seal the existing low voltage cables which were going through a variety of structures, new and old. These included metal plate mounted, brick and concrete cable entries.
“For this project we designed and manufactured customised openable frames as we needed to build around existing cables. We also used bolted frames with an extended 100mm flange so they could be bolted into concrete.”
Roxtec develop and manufacture complete sealing solutions for cable and pipe penetrations.
Its expert in-house engineers design customised sealing solutions for a variety of industries including oil and gas, construction, power generation transmission and distribution, marine and telecoms.
Graham O’Hare said Roxtec’s technical knowhow and close co-operation with customers is the key to its ability to create effective tailored sealing solutions.
