When it comes to maximising energy efficiency in data centres much of the debate focuses on new build environments where the integration of the latest high performance cooling systems and controls can generate considerable energy savings.
However, for the owners and operators of older facilities where budgets or logistical constraints make a complete redesign unviable, managing energy and running costs whilst minimising downtime presents an increasing challenge.
In this year’s paper at Data Centre World (Excel London, 12th & 13th March 2015) British cooling specialist, Airedale International, will apply its significant knowledge of data centre cooling technologies, controls integration and retrofit expertise, to demonstrate how to maximise the efficiency and resilience of live environments without compromising business continuity.
The presentation entitled ‘Innovation in Renovation’ will include a new case study to show how Airedale’s expertise has been applied at BAE Systems where annual savings of 70-80% on its computer room air conditioning energy costs have been achieved with a payback of fewer than 15 months. Through a year-long programme of component upgrades, controls integration and system refinements, resilience of this installation where critical testing and production of combat and training aircraft is carried out has also been maximised.
The presentation will be delivered by Airedale’s Stuart Kay, business development director & Adrian Trevelyan, aftersales manager.
Stuart has been involved in specifying some of the UK’s most important data centre installations since the 1990s. With more than 30 years’ experience, his understanding of past and leading-edge technological developments within the industry arm him with a unique knowledge bank that can be applied both to designing new build data centres as well as re-engineering the vast installed base.
Aftersales manager, Adrian Trevelyan, heads up a 50-strong technical team which provides a national installation, maintenance, refurbishment and project management service. With 25 years at Airedale he has significant experience of upgrading live, critical installations to maximise energy efficiency and redundancy.
