Vision Components has introduced its new VC Smart Inspect ultra-compact complete machine vision solution which is suitable for a range of industrial applications. It features a 700MHz processor with a computing power of 5,600MIPS. A 32MB flash and 128MB DDRAM are available for program and data storage. The housing, which measures 140 x 70 x 35mm, contains a camera and a high output, high power LED illumination. The illumination, which is positioned at an angle, ensures that even difficult surfaces can be examined.
The VC Smart Inspect executes all image processing routines without an external PC. Therefore, the units enable automation in applications where conventional, PC-based image processing systems are too costly or too complicated to implement. They feature an Ethernet interface that enables live video output on a PC and can be optionally equipped with an RS232 interface. Images are recorded by means of a global shutter CMOS sensor whose performance equals that of a CCD sensor, providing clear, high resolution pictures even in extremely fast applications.
