CIBSE and UBM Live have combined to launch Building Services – the CIBSE Conference & Exhibition for the building services industry. Here, Electrical Engineering magazine takes a closer look at this new event
Bringing together the UBM event, previously known as the M&E Event, together with a new look CIBSE conference, the all new Building Services – The CIBSE Conference & Exhibition, taking place on 10th-11th October at Olympia in London, will be reformatted to ensure that participants have access to the most relevant content, enabling them to drive business forward.
With input from over 30 speakers, the conference will provide insights from both a local and international level, and feature debates and interactive roundtable workshops.
Plenary conference sessions will cover collaborating across the procurement chain; delivering sustainability from start to finish in a cost effective way; acquiring new customers; overcoming funding challenges; retaining, recruiting and developing a robust pool of talent; and benefitting from BIM.
Expert speakers
David Fisk, president, CIBSE, will give the opening address on the first day of the conference which will be followed by the keynote speaker Paul Morrell OBE, chief construction advisor, HM government, who will provide in-depth insight into the construction industry as a whole, looking at the challenges and opportunities around financing in the future and the drive for sustainability.
Each day the conference will split into two streams after lunch for delegates to be able to tailor their own agenda and visit the exhibition. Additional confirmed speakers across the two days include, David Mathieson, director, Turner & Townsend; Neil Billett, partner and London office managing director, Buro Happold; Myles McCarthy, managing director, Carbon Trust Implementation Services; and William Mitchell, design director, 4C Design.
The agenda for the two day conference will also incorporate panel sessions, case studies, industry insight and roundtable discussions that will all look at the future of the industry against a backdrop of challenging times and the need for cross industry collaboration and integration. Sessions include a panel discussion featuring Robin Nicholson CBE, senior partner, Edward Cullian Architects; Akhtar Hussain, director, AECOM; and Sarah Cary, sustainability executive, British Land on how different sectors can work together to optimise a projects’ success and ensure effective lifecycle management.
Case studies will feature a range of topics including making the most of business opportunities abroad, driving down emissions and ensuring value engineering on refurbishment projects, and how the industry can benefit from building information modeling (BIM).
The closing session of the conference will offer insight into how an integrated approach for this summer’s London games was delivered. A select panel of experts, including Philip Johnson, principal, Populous and Daniel House, associate director, UKMEA, will provide insight into how they worked together to deliver both comfort and safety for the performers and spectators as well as energy efficiency and sustainability across the huge variety of venues.
Exhibitors
An international line-up of building services professionals will be attending the exhibition which will enable suppliers to showcase their existing products and launch new technological innovations. Over 60 exhibitors have already confirmed, including Baxi Commercial, Bosch Thermotechnology, Dimplex Renewables, Lowara UK, Vivreau, Mitsubishi Electric UK and Samsung.
Many exhibitors are attending the event for the first time ensuring that the range of products and services on show will be varied and industry relevant. The exhibition will provide an opportunity for visitors and delegates to meet with relevant suppliers and see the latest innovations from across the whole industry.
The exhibition will also provide access to free CPD accredited seminar sessions where visitors will have the opportunity to gain valuable CPD points at the dedicated CPD theatre. Presentations from Amtech, Baxi, Mitsubishi Electric, TA Hydronics and Evinox will give insight on the latest industry services, products and legislation from leading companies working within the building services.
The event will be co-located with the UK’s energy management event, Energy Solutions, which this year will host Lord Sebastian Coe KBE as its keynote speaker along with the return of the Energy Academy, offering over 20 hours of tailored CPD accredited sessions. The FM Event and the Global Security Summit London will also run alongside both events.
