PhotonStar LED Group has recently opened a new factory to accommodate the growing demand for its LED luminaires.
At a time when a lot of LED products are manufactured in Asia, PhotonStar’s CEO, James Mckenzie, explained PhotonStar’s commitment to UK manufacture. “LED products are almost always more costly initially than the less efficient conventional light sources, and decisions to purchase them are generally made based on expected payback.
“In order to ensure that payback claims are met, the specifier has to be confident that the product will meet all the performance and reliability claims. When it comes to reliability, it really matters how you design and assemble the product, and testing is essential. Keeping both R&D and manufacturing in-house permits us to ensure quality is maintained at these two crucial stages.”
The new factory in South Wales will provide larger production facilities and the move has permitted PhotonStar’s R&D facility in Hampshire to be committed to LED module manufacture – providing LED light engines to other luminaire manufacturers that perhaps do not have the expertise in-house.
