We offer an outstanding choice of materials: painted mild steel, 304 and 316L stainless steel, aluminium, polycarbonate and GRP; many of the families have environmental sealing to high IP and NEMA ratings. With extensive UL and cUL approvals there is almost certainly a standard family to suit just about any application. In addition to general purpose industrial enclosures, there are ranges optimised for specialist requirements: corrosion resistant enclosures, North American disconnect enclosures featuring cutouts for compatibility with flange mount disconnect switches and circuit breakers from the major manufacturers, ABB, Allen-Bradley, C-H Westinghouse, GE, ITE and Square D. Hygienic enclosures for regular high temperature and pressure washdown, operator interface enclosures, modular Wireway and cable trough systems in mild and stainless steel are also manufactured. Modifying Steel Enclosures

The main advantages of standard enclosures are that there are no up-front non-recurrent design, engineering and tooling charges. Products are on the shelf ready for immediate delivery, so the time to market is as low as possible; the unit costs are attractive and the design will have been field proven in many different applications. However, standard products are exactly that: standard. When your project requires multiple enclosure types that are not available off the shelf, factory modifications can provide the perfect solution.

The need to add numerous apertures to every box could strain your resources and introduce the risk of costly mistakes. Also bear in mind that stainless steel is a difficult material to work, the very properties that make it ideal for some applications, particularly corrosion resistance, hardness and mechanical strength make machining a challenging task.

Modifications can go well beyond just cutouts – particularly for OEM’s and larger projects. There may be times when the available standard sizes just do not suit your application – modified steel enclosures can be built to your dimensional requirements. The paint colour of a standard enclosure may not be ideal as you would prefer to match your corporate colour scheme – Hammond can provide a factory quality, paint finish to your modified enclosure and our process ensures all cut edges are fully powder coated. With our North American UL approvals on our industrial enclosures, basing your enclosure on a standard Hammond design could be the ideal solution for North American export projects.

We are not a full build to print custom manufacturer, but if your enclosure is based on one of our numerous enclosure designs, we can normally meet your requirements. Our Inside Sales team will be glad to review your modified enclosure opportunity’s design specifications and minimum order quantities.

Ask us, the original enclosure designer and manufacturer, to modify our standard enclosures – it’s the best solution. From prototype to production quantities, we offer a rapid configuration service to bring your new project to market – on time and on budget
